VEGETABLES & HERBS

Vegetables & Herbs

(Seasonal Department)

Our vegetable growers at Russell's widen our selection each year to accommodate for the ever changing interest in local and sustainable food production. We offer certified organics, heirlooms, and conventional varieties.

Selections of fresh herb plants are available year-round at Russell's, but the widest variety of herbs are available in the spring and summer months. For more information about specific herbs ask our friendly staff. We will advise you about using the fresh herbs that you find at Russell's and grow on your own.

Seasonal Information

Between now and August 20th most of your fall plants (broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, kohlrabi, collards, chard, beets, kale) should be planted and growing so they can produce heads or stock in time for cooler weather.

Lettuces, spinach, pak choi & mustard greens can be be grown now but will need to be kept cool or else they will bolt. To keep them cool you can can plant them under canopies of larger plants, plant them in shadier parts of the garden, or plant them in pots and place in the shade until the heat has passed. We recommend that new gardeners wait until the weather is cooler to plant lettuce. We will have a second shipment of plants arriving later in the season.
