Our vegetable growers at Russell's widen our selection each year to accommodate for the ever changing interest in local and sustainable food production. We offer certified organics, heirlooms, and conventional varieties.

Selections of fresh herb plants are available year-round at Russell's, but the widest variety of herbs are available in the spring and summer months. For more information about specific herbs ask our friendly staff. We will advise you about using the fresh herbs that you find at Russell's and grow on your own.

Seasonal Information

Fall gardening can be fun and sometimes easier than the spring for many cold crops. These crops include Beets, Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts, Cabbage, Carrot, Collard, Garlic, Kale, Kohlrabi, Lettuce, Mustard, Onion, Parsnip, Pea, Radish, Spinach, Swiss Chard and Turnip. Many of these get sweeter in the fall. Some of these Fall crops you can still plant into September including Arugula, Beets, Carrots, Kale, Lettuce, Mustards, Radishes, Swiss Chard and Turnips.

Items that take longer to get to a harvest would prefer to be planted Late July through August (depending on the temperatures). Some of these include Celery, Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, Cabbage, Kohlrabi and Peas. 

The hardiest vegetables that can withstand heavy frost and air temperatures below 28F include: Arugula, Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Kale, Kohlrabi, Mustards & Spinach.
